Sarah Nafziger, M.D., professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine, is a senior faculty winner of the Dean's Excellence Award in Service.
Nafziger completed her medical school, residency, and fellowship at UAB and is dual board certified in Emergency Medicine and Emergency Medical Services. She joined the Department of Emergency Medicine in 2005 and currently serves as the Physician Advisor to the UAB Center for Patient Flow, which manages patient flow through all areas of the hospital and serves as an integral member of the strategic planning team for managing capacity to care for patients in the UAB Health System.
In addition to this role, Nafziger previously served as the Assistant State EMS Medical Director for the Alabama Department of Public Health where she worked on implementation of regionalized specialty systems of care for time-dependent illness and injury. She is the immediate past president of the Alabama ACEP Chapter and has also served as a medical officer in the US Army Reserve and the Alabama Air National Guard.
