Ryan Mantooth, M.D., resident in the Department of Emergency Medicine, recently received a perfect score on the In-Training Examination (ITE) taken by residents annually across all specialties. There are currently more than 6,200 Emergency Medicine residents in the country, and Mantooth was one of five individuals to receive a perfect score. The Emergency Medicine ITE is comprised of 225 questions and takes four and a half hours to complete.
“I was shocked when I heard the news about my score,” said Mantooth. “One of our attendings was the first to tell me, and I thought he was just messing with me. Test scores aren't everything, but I'm very thankful I was able to accomplish it. I think it helps show just how good the training is here at UAB and how strong our program has become.”
Charles Khoury, M.D., associate residency director in the Department of Emergency Medicine, was extremely impressed by Mantooth’s score: “Ryan is our first resident to achieve a perfect score, which places him in the one-hundredth percentile in the country. More impressively, Ryan's academic aptitude is congruent with his clinical performance and patient care. He's one of the kindest and hardest-working residents I've had the privilege to work with. This accomplishment is yet another indicator of his stellar performance as a resident at UAB.”
