Stuart Frank, M.D., professor in the Department of Medicine's Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, is the winner of the Dean's Excellence Award in Mentorship.
Frank received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. In addition to being a professor, he is also the executive vice chair of the Department of Medicine. He has been a member of the School of Medicine faculty since 1991. Frank's studies are aimed at understanding growth hormone (GH) receptor signal transduction and structure/function relationships and mechanisms of generation of the GH binding protein. He is also chief of the Endocrinology Section in the Medical Service at the Birmingham Veterans Affairs Medical Center. His research is supported by grants from NIH and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Frank credits his knowledge on mentoring to those who mentored him, and he considers it a privilege to mentor others in medicine.
