Kondal Rao Kyanam Kabir Baig, M.D., assistant professor in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, will join the editorial board for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the primary journal of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, in June.
The journal publishes original, peer-reviewed articles on endoscopic procedures used in the study, diagnosis and treatment of digestive diseases. Kyanam’s appointment, for a term of up to three years, begins in June. It is his first appointment of the kind, and the editor-in-chief, Michael Wallace, M.D., a professor of medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, was Kyanam’s mentor.
“Our main goals are to elevate the profile of the journal, which is already pretty well-known in the GI community, and to raise its impact factor,” he said. “It’s a pretty exciting thing.”
In his clinical practice, Kyanam provides diagnostic and interventional endosonography, endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography and endoscopic mucosal resection of lesions in the esophagus, stomach, duodenum and colon. His research focuses on early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer and pancreatic juice markers as surrogates for diagnosis of pancreatic diseases.
