The UAB-Genentech Research Scholars Fellowship, supported by a grant from Genetch, is a summer research program that provides opportunities for eight talented UAB undergraduates to conduct research in the biomedical, engineering, or life sciences with a UAB faculty member for a 10-week period.
The purpose of this UAB-Genentech Scholars Program is to attract and encourage undergraduate students who are first generation college students and/or from historically underrepresented minority groups to pursue graduate work by engaging them in intensive research experiences and pairing each Scholar with a faculty and graduate student mentor.
In addition to full-time research activities, UAB-Genentech Scholars also engage with researchers across the campus through journal clubs and in biweekly seminars to learn about research integrity and ethics, skills needed to be a successful researcher, clinical and translational research and funding resources for graduate school. Each Scholar is paired with a faculty mentor and graduate assistant, and each Scholar will present his/her research at the UAB Summer Research Expo.
This program is open to current UAB undergraduate students with sophomore or higher status and a minimum 3.0 GPA. The fellowship runs May 23- August 5. Deadline to apply is March 24, 2017.
