Nathan Erdmann, M.D., Ph.D., assistant professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases, has been awarded the 2022 Dean’s Excellence Award in Service. 

Three medical students were selected for the Grants for Emerging Researchers/Clinicians Mentorship (GERM) Program for the year 2022-2023. They will train one-on-one with Infectious Diseases experts Ellen Eaton, M.D., Olivia Van Gerwen, M.D., and Rachael Lee, M.D., respectively. 

The Heersink School of Medicine is spotlighting each of the women selected for the Momentum in Medicine at UAB program and hosting one-on-one interviews to learn their stories. In February, the Heersink communications team sat down with Catherine Brown, Paige Dorman, and Rachael Lee, M.D.

Latesha Elopre, M.D., MSPH, has been named assistant dean for Medical Education Diversity & Inclusion, a new position established in the UAB School of Medicine to support recruiting underrepresented medical students into UAB residency and fellowship programs and providing critical engagement and support for URIM trainees in the learning environment.

Turner Overton, M.D., professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases, has been awarded the senior faculty 2021 Dean’s Excellence Award for Service.

Rachael Lee, M.D., MSPH, assistant professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases, has been awarded the junior faculty 2021 Dean’s Excellence Award for Service.

On March 25, 2020, the School of Medicine and the Hugh Kaul Precision Medicine Institute issued a request for applications that would change the course of research at UAB. A year later, the 14 selected projects have led to new discoveries, subsequent funding, high impact publications, and much more.
