Professor James Johnston, M.D., James Garber Galbraith Endowed Chair of Neurosurgery James Markert, M.D., MPH,  and Professor Kristen Riley, M.D., as well as Professor Mark Hadley, M.D., and Distinguished Professor Jerry Oakes, M.D., attended the American Academy of Neurological Surgery (AAcNS) annual meeting last month.

The meeting, Sept. 22-25, was hosted in Spanish Bay, Monterey, CA. Johnston and Riley presented their abstracts selected for the meeting, making up almost 17 percent of total presentations.

Earlier this year, Markert was named the president-elect of the AAcNS. At this annual meeting, Markert was officially voted in as the new president of the organization.

“We were delighted to attend the annual meeting,” said Markert. “It’s a great opportunity to represent our department and also to connect with other top academic neurosurgeons across the U.S. This meeting allows us to learn about cutting edge research as well as the latest in neurosurgical techniques and practices. We look forward to applying these findings in our clinical and research endeavors.”

The mission of the AAcNS is to foster scientific discovery and innovative research while seeking to better the lives of patients suffering from neurosurgical disorders. The vision of the Academy is to serve as the leading neurosurgical organization in North America focused on promoting, sponsoring and mentoring laboratory, translational and clinical research in the neurological sciences.
