Bio
Nicholas M.B. Laskay, MD grew up as an only child in Mobile, Alabama, where he graduated high school from UMS-Wright Preparatory School in 2010. He attended college at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa where he graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in 2014, double majoring in Biology and Chemistry. He is the first member of his family to attend college. He received his MD from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2018, graduating cum laude. He was involved in numerous research projects pertaining to pediatric, functional, and spine neurosurgery. His research focus in medical school included clinical neurodevelopmental outcomes in the pediatric population looking specifically at hydrocephalus and myelomeningocele. He was elected into Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society as a junior and was a member of the UASOM Honor Council. After graduating from UAB, Nick decided to stay at his home institution to begin his neurosurgical career. Clinically, he is currently undecided as an area to focus within neurosurgery. His current interests include pediatrics, global neurosurgery, spine, and vascular. Academically, his efforts include clinical outcomes research with a wide range of interests. If you ask him what excites him about the field of neurosurgery, he will tell you that the brain and the neurosciences are the last frontier of modern medicine.
Beyond neurosurgery, he is very passionate about the state of Alabama, in particular Alabama football. He is an active member of Redeemer Community Church in Avondale. He enjoys the outdoors, golf, Spikeball, KanJam, a good cup of coffee, seafood, and live music.
