The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) welcomes International Visiting Scholars (IVS) to participate in educational and scholarly experiences with our faculty.
Scholars have the opportunity to learn, observe, and collaborate with world-renowned physicians, scientists, and educators in an environment dedicated to excellence, inclusivity, and innovation.
UAB considers International Visiting Scholars to include observers, shadowers, researchers, graduate students, educators, speakers, and other non-degree, non-credit earning visitors. Visiting scholars may be self-funded, supported by UAB, sponsored by their home institution or government, or funded through a combination of sources.
International Visiting Scholars may participate in a clinical observership, a non-clinical research opportunity, or a combination of both under the guidance of a UAB faculty host. The process of becoming an International Visiting Scholar at UAB begins with an invitation from a UAB faculty member who will serve as the mentor/host. From there, a campus-wide process begins to review and approve required documentation for onboarding and offboarding, in accordance with UAB policies and procedures.
