Office or person responsible for implementing
Office of Associate Dean for Students
Applies to
All UAB Heersink School of Medicine
Rationale
-
The AAMC Organization of Student Representatives (OSR) is the national body that represents U.S. medical students within the AAMC, giving students a voice in academic medicine, policy, and education issues. Institutional OSR representatives serve as liaisons, bringing student perspectives to the national level and communicating AAMC priorities and opportunities back to their schools.
-
The UAB Heersink School of Medicine has a robust student leadership structure. Within this structure the class presidents have access to the resources, knowledge, and medical education leadership to make them successful in fulfilling the mission and purpose of the OSR rep program.
Guidance
-
At the UAB Heersink School of Medicine, the AAMC OSR student reps will be the class presidents.
-
The fourth-year class president will serve as the primary and voting OSR rep.
-
If the fourth-year class president does not wish to serve as the primary and voting OSR rep, they may designate one of the other class presidents to take on this role.
-
-
Whenever possible, the fourth-year class president will attend the Group on Student Affairs spring meeting, and the AAMC Learn, Serve, Lead meeting.
-
The OSR reps are tasked with keeping the medical education leadership informed about national initiatives, questions and problems being presented to the AAMC OSR, and advocate for the UAB Heersink Medical School students at the regional and national levels.
