The Department of Medicine (DOM) and the DREAM Council invite groups historically disadvantaged in research to apply for the Raegan Durant, MD, Research Award. This award was created to promote and provide flexible support for historically disadvantaged faculty/staff in medicine who are considering or pursuing research careers.
This award will provide funding awarded for one year to a post-MD, PhD, or MD/PhD with no R-level NIH grant funding to date who belongs to a group historically disadvantaged in research pursuing a career supported by a confirmed mentor in the DOM.

Applications Due: Monday, April 6, 2026, by 5:00 p.m.
Notification of Award: May 2026
Durant Award Submission
Submit the applicant's information at the link below. The application must include:
- A UAB-Formatted CV
- A Description of the Applicant's Interests and Career Goals
- A Letter of Intent (including information on your historically disadvantaged background and how this award will assist your career development)
- A Mentor's Letter of Support (including cost share)
- A budget and budget justification
