Andrew Land, M.D., will assume the role of associate chief medical officer for UAB Medicine, effective Oct. 1, 2024. An ambulatory quality officer for Primary Care and clinical associate professor in the UAB Division of General Internal Medicine, Land has led initiatives to enhance patient safety and standardize care. His work includes developing clinical decision support tools and co-management algorithms. In his new role, Land will continue to advance of UAB Medicine's mission to provide life-changing care. Gaggar Finds Live Lactobacilli Reduces Lung Inflammation
In preclinical models, Amit Gaggar, M.D., Ph.D., (Professor, PACCM) and colleagues found that inhaling a powder mixture of living Lactobacilli bacteria reduced pulmonary inflammation and improved lung function for bronchopulmonary dysplasia and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Eaton Elected to IDSA HIVMA Board of Directors
Ellen Eaton, M.D., MPH, (Assoc. Professor, ID) was elected to serve a three-year term on the Infectious Diseases Society of America's HIV Medicine Association Board of Directors. She will help set strategic direction and policies to advance the field and improve the response to HIV.
Bakitas Inducted into Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame
Marie Bakitas, DNSc, (Professor, Nursing) was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society's Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame during the 35th International Nursing Research Congress in Singapore.
