DOM Cohort of MedEd Track FellowsThe Department of Medicine is excited to launch its first cohort of fellows participating in the Medical Education Track. This year-long curriculum is designed for DOM sub-specialty fellows interested in careers as clinician-educators, helping them build teaching skills, develop structured mentorship, and create a community of educators across divisions.

Harada Awarded Humanism in Medicine Award

Caroline Harada, M.D., professor in the Division of Gerontology, Geriatrics, and Palliative Care, has received the 2024 Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism in Medicine Award from the Association of American Medical Colleges in recognition of her service in teaching and advising.

ID Receives $13M from CDC for STI Prevention Initiatives

Professors Barbara Van Der Pol, Ph.D., MPH, and Will Geisler, M.D., MPH, in the Division of Infectious Diseases, has received two contracts from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to conduct studies that addresses the growing syphilis rates in the U.S.

The DOM is thrilled to welcome Anne Weaver, M.D., a general endocrinologist and assistant professor in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism. Weaver joins us from Duke University Medical Center with a focus on thyroid disorders and procedures. She treats patients at UAB Med West and the Kirklin Clinic.

MHERC Appoints New Co-Director

Irfan Asif, M.D., chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine and associate dean of Primary Care and Rural Health, has been appointed co-director of the UAB Minority Health & Health Equity Research Center.
