Timothy Garvey, M.D., associate director of the UAB Comprehensive Diabetes Center, director of the UAB Diabetes Research Center, and professor in the UAB Department of Nutrition Sciences, as the banquet speaker.

In addition, Justin Alexander, researcher III and Hafia (Saba) Alsharif, doctoral student from the lab of Sushant Bhatnagar, Ph.D., presented their research at this Boshell Diabetes Research Day program in Auburn, Alabama.

Program organizers note that the 15th Annual Boshell Research Day brought together experts from around the U.S. to present current topics related to diabetes and the role of obesity in its development.

UCDC Director Anath Shalev, M.D., is pleased that center members and trainees continue to interact and support partnerships with diabetes researchers at Auburn, around the state and beyond.

“The UCDC values its long-standing partnership with diabetes research networks outside of Birmingham,” said Shalev. “For 15 years, we have enjoyed supporting the event by submitting research, presenting novel findings, and engaging with our colleagues. We’re very grateful to Dr. Robert Judd–who is chair of the Boshell Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases Research Program at Auburn University–for his hospitality and for organizing and running this successful event year after year.”
