Sushant Bhatnagar, Ph.D. (left) and Brooks Vaughan, M.D. (right)The UAB Department of Medicine (DOM) honored two UAB Comprehensive Diabetes Center (UCDC) members, Sushant Bhatnagar, Ph.D. and Brooks Vaughan, M.D., at the annual DOM Recognition Day.
DOM Recognition Day is an annual event that recognizes individuals for their major milestones and significant contributions to the department over the past year. Nearly 200 employees attended the awards ceremony at the Margaret Cameron Spain Auditorium on November 20, 2024. Awards were given in various categories including Top Physicians, APP Champions, Top Investigators, Division Research, Top Teachers, Top Teachers by Division, STAR Staff and Dean’s Excellence, and Unsung Heroes.
Dr. Bhatnagar, UCDC scientist and associate professor in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism, was recognized with a Division Research Award for his outstanding contributions to research, which include a five-year National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded project focused on Type 2 diabetes and insulin secretion.
Dr. Vaughan, professor in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism; Medical Director of Neurosurgical Pituitary Disorder Clinic; and Associate Program Director of Fellowship Training, was recognized with a Top Teacher by Division Award for his excellence as a clinician educator and his work training the next generation of physicians and scientists.
The UCDC congratulates Bhatnagar and Vaughan on their outstanding contributions to the center and the UAB Heersink School of Medicine.
