The purpose of the CNC Epilepsy and Epilepsy Disorders Pillar is to foster collaborative research projects between basic and clinical scientists that will lead to better and improved approaches for the treatment of Epilepsy disorders and associated comorbidities.

One of the goals of the Epilepsy Pillar is to initiate and support collaboration with tool-development laboratories to develop innovative technologies to address chronic seizures in animal models of Epilepsy and apply similar tools in human Epilepsy. We also aim to initiate pilot projects that can be transformed into NIH-supported multi-investigator R01 or Program Projects (full scale specialized center grants; P50 Centers) around common themes. Another goal is to identify unique resources within and outside of individual departments/labs (e.g., Center for Clinical and Translational Science, Neuroimaging, CRISPR technology, Gut Microbiome, Epigenetics, Genetics, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics) and incorporate them in the research plan.

Activities/Resources

Some of the facilities that are available to researchers are listed at: https://www.uab.edu/research/home/core. In addition, in coordination with the Epilepsy pillar, the CNC can help in arranging the internal review of proposals before final grant submission.
