Emergency Medical Services
The Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS) approves all continuing medical education courses. Confirm that the course has an OEMS approved course number prior to attending to ensure you will receive credit for participation. The ADPH OEMS approves CME courses that are patient care related and appropriate for the Alabama EMSP. Courses should be properly designated to address topics appropriate for the EMSP level(s) in attendance. The course approval process is described here.

Genetic Counselor
If you have attended an educational course, grand rounds, or other specialty training course that was not approved by the National Society of Genetic Counselors for Category 1 CEUs, but was approved by another accrediting body (such as AMA, ACCME, etc.), you may be eligible to apply for Category 2 CEU credit. Download the appropriate application here and consult the checklist to ensure your activity is Category 2 eligible.

Nuclear Medicine Technologist
The Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) accepts all CE activity approved by the AMA (including AMA PRA Category 1 credit). Review their full policy.

Nurse Midwives
The American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB) accepts continuing education units approved by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to satisfy 20 hours of credit. AMCB requires that CEU information be entered by the certificant via AMCB's website. Click here to log on to the Portal. After logging into the website, you will be able to update your CEU information by clicking on the "Manage Continuing Education" link. Review their continuing education policy for additional details.

Nursing
The State of Alabama Board of Nursing (ABN) will accept continuing education credits granted by another profession if the course is classified as a Category I Continuing Medical Education by the American Medical Association. You will need to add these classes to your individual online continuing education record, via the My Profile page.

Occupational Therapy
The Alabama State Board of Occupational Therapy will honor any coursework relevant to the practice of occupational therapy and any coursework approved by another health profession board or organization. You must supply the following information:
- Proof of attendance (certificates, letters or transcripts)
- course title, date(s)
- contact hours/CEUs/PDUs
Proof of attendance without noted hours will only be allowed 0.5 contact hour (1/2 hour) of credit. Proof of required continuing education must be electronically submitted directly to CE Broker. Check the board's site for full details on the policy.

Optometry
The Alabama Board of Optometry accepts Council on Optometric Practitioner Education (COPE) approved courses for continuing education credit. All non-COPE approved courses must be submitted for approval. If desired, you may print and use this form for CE approval request.

Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician
ONLY ACPE approved programs or courses may be used to satisfy Continuing Education requirements. Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians may access and track completed continuing pharmacy education (CPE) credits using the CPE Monitor system. APA must award credit within 60 days of the program, so you must make sure that you submit credit requests to the CPE Monitor system in a timely manner and follow up if you don't see that credit in your profile.

Physical Therapy
Alabama Board of Physical Therapy does not pre-approve continuing education providers, sponsors or individual programs. It is the licensee’s responsibility, using her/his professional judgment, to determine if the continuing education activities they complete are applicable, appropriate, and meet the requirements of the Board. It's important to maintain your certificates of completion and also any initial informational or marketing/advertising materials related to an activity for audit purposes. Physician Assistant
The American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) Accepts regular Category 1 CME credit for activities from ACCME accredited organizations. The only documentation needed is the non-MD CME certificate. PA’s also need self-assessment CME and PI CME, but both of those types need to be certified by the AAPA.
You must log CME activities with NCCPA. You will need to supply:- Title of the program
- The organization that is administering the program (provider: for UAB simulation activities this will be the UAB office of interprofessional simulation)
- Number of credits
- The organization that designates the program for CME credit (Sponsor: for UAB simulation activities this will be the UAB division of continuing medical education)

Psychology
The Alabama Board of Examiners in Psychology allows activities that are acceptable by the AMA [i.e. AMA PRA category 1 credit™] to be used for renewal of license for psychologists and psychology technicians. To claim credit you must complete the continuing education reporting form for each activity. For AMA credit, you must supply the following information:
- The individual continuing education reporting form
- Certificate of completion
- Documentation that the program meets all criteria in chapter 750-X-3A of the Alabama Board of Examiners in Psychology administrative code. The documentation must at a minimum specify:
- The relevance of the program to science or profession of psychology
- The objectives of the program
- Evidence that the program is publicized in brochures which identify faculty and describe educational objectives
- Course leaders, teachers, or faculty are professionally qualified people who have demonstrated their ability, either by advanced degrees or publications in professional journals.

Respiratory Therapy
The Alabama Board of Respiratory Therapy recognizes AMA PRA Category 1 credit is acceptable as long as the minimum time requirement is met (20 minutes). Respiratory Therapists are responsible for maintaining records including documentation of proof of continuing education, such as certificates and transcripts for a two-year period following the renewal date for which the contract hours were earned. Social Work
According to the Alabama State Board of Social Work Examiners (AWSB), a program must contain a “psychosocial component” before it can be approved. Some UAB departments, divisions, and units are approved to provide CE. Continuing education programs sponsored by university or college social work departments accredited through Council of Social Work Education (CSWE) are approved.
If the program you’re interested in does not fall under any of the categories listed above, it must be approved by the Board prior to attending. This can be done by submitting the following information:- Title, date and location of program
- Detailed agenda showing times and topics
- Short bio on any speaker (s)
- Objective (s) of program
Once the information is received and reviewed by the Board, you will be notified in writing of its approval status. The Board will also post this information on their website in order of the date of program. Please check the website under Approved CE Programs before calling the Board.
Because of the large volume of CE pre-approvals, they request that you submit the request for approval at least two weeks prior to the date of the program.
