Earl G. “Buddy” Hamel Jr., Ph.D. had a positive impact on everyone he met.
As a dedicated educator, Dr. Hamel taught anatomy to medical and dental students and researched comparative and experimental neurology for over 35 years at UAB. He devoted his life to opening minds, furthering the field of human anatomy, and serving as a mediator between his students and his deep understanding of his field.
Dr. Hamel believed attaining a higher education was essential to succeed in life, and he encouraged his daughters and granddaughters to seek higher education. He devoted his life to opening minds and furthering the field of human anatomy. That is why his family can think of no better way to honor his memory than by their creation of the Dr. Earl G. Hamel Jr. Support Fund to fund an Earl G. Hamel Jr. Scholar, which will benefit a student in the UAB School of Medicine’s Department of Cell, Developmental and Integrative Biology.
