A Legacy of Leadership: Dr. Susan Black
Susan Black, M.D., vice chair of education and former residency program director, retired in 2024 after 25 years at UAB. Her dedication to our trainees and positive influence on the practice will be felt by the department for years to come. We sat down with her to reflect on her time at UAB and how the institution and its people impacted her career.
Research Ecosystem Fuels Collaboration and Better Patient Outcomes
As a physician-scientist, NIH-funded investigator, and director of clinical research, Brant Wagener, M.D., Ph.D., holds a unique leadership position at the crossroads of clinical care and scientific discovery. In addition to overseeing departmental research efforts, he directs the research fellowship and leads two resident-focused initiatives: the Systematic Training in Anesthesia Research (STAR) Program and Resident Mentored Research Experience Track (RMRET).
