Michelle Cook, Ph.D.
Director
mcook8@uab.edu
(205) 996-4270 | Lister Hill 420
Dr. Cook came to UAB in 2015. She has served as a national reviewer for the Critical Language Scholarship and for the Gilman Scholarship. In addition to advising students through the application process for nationally-competitive awards, she has taught composition and literature courses at Augusta University, Clemson University, and Auburn University. Dr. Cook’s research uses cultural studies methodologies and focuses on topics including feminism, gender, and trauma. Students in her courses complete projects analyzing everything from Jessie Pope to King Lear to The Adventure Zone. If it surprises you to learn that she loves her dog, Star Wars, and D&D, you clearly haven’t met her yet.

Kamina Perdue is a lifelong "Blazer." She was born and raised in Birmingham, AL, and completed both her undergraduate and graduate degrees here at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Prior to joining the Office of National and International Fellowships and Scholarships, she used her passion for writing and public speaking to serve students as a financial aid specialist and an academic advisor. Her hope is to guide students toward nationally competitive opportunities that enable them to go further and do more than they could have imagined when entering college. When not writing or working, she enjoys reading, singing, and binge-watching horror movies and reality TV.
