UAB will be hosting a five-day Metal Casting Bootcamp in summer 2025 in the foundry at the Materials Processing and Applications Development (MPAD) facility.
The camp is free and is open to all, but the curriculum is geared toward people in the following categories:
- High school students who are interested in exploring careers in metal-related industry
- Colllege students (two-year and four-year)
- Others individuals or groups with an interest in metals
Attendees who complete all five days of the program will receive certification and can qualify for apprentice positions with select companies.
Sample Schedule
Day 1: Computer CAD modeling
Day 2: 3D printing and creating sand molds
Day 3: Lost-foam casting
Day 4: Casting of iron skillets
Day 5: Post- treatment of castings.
