Who should complete this course?
This course is intended for those new to working with radioactive materials and those seeking a UAB Radioactive Materials Licensure. Be advised this course has multiple parts:
- Part One: Course Modules. This online course consists of three modules with a comprehensive assessment at the end of each module:
- Module 1: Basics, Policies, and Procedures
- Module 2: Radiation Calculations
- Part Two: Practicum where you will demonstrate the setting up the appropriate shielding, cleaning up spills, and using a Geiger Counter, etc.
Bioassays are only required for the personnel working with pre-determined activities of specific radioisotopes. You may be required to enroll in the Bioassay Monitoring Program if you work with threshold activities of certain radioisotopes as outlined in the UAB Bioassay Standard. To schedule a Bioassay, contact the Health Physics Dosimetry Coordinator at (205) 934-6214. A copy of the completed training certificate must be maintained in the laboratory files and presented to the proper authorities upon request.
