Fully Online Program

The Education Specialist in TESOL Professional Track is designed for individuals who teach ESL to adult learners in one or more of this profession's diverse array of settings. Such settings could include intensive English program on a college campus, English for Specific Purposes, workplace-situated English classes, community programs, and refugee centers. This professional track is also for P-12 teachers who have a master's degree in education and master's-level certification in a teaching field other than ESL or ESL endorsement from a state other than Alabama. Ed.S. students can pursue this professional track by following a blended approach and taking both on-ground and online courses; or, they can pursue it by taking only online courses and doing a two-week summer residency at UAB.

Coursework takes a minimum of 30 semester hours to complete and includes courses in ESL, research, and advisor-approved electives as well as a capstone thesis, submitted manuscript, or 6 additional credit hours. A program checklist can be found on the right and course specific information may be found in the UAB Graduate Catalog.
