Adam J. Toth oversees all German language courses and teaches courses in World Cultures at UAB. Dr. Toth has been teaching German language and culture at all levels since 2010 and had taught in Pennsylvania, Indiana, North Carolina and Virginia prior to joining UAB in 2022. His doctoral research explored the relationship between the origins/ role of race as a philosophical category in German intellectual history and the reception of that intellectual study of race in German and Austrian literary works.

His current research evaluates The Great War and the Influenza Pandemic as significant turns in Marxist and Freudian thought and finds itself frequently intersecting with discussions of war, youth culture and sexuality at the turn of the century. Dr. Toth has made his pedagogical mission to integrate and assess cultural competency into his language classrooms in ways that are meaningful to his students by including not only his own research interests, but topics such as German drama and theater and culinary culture into his lesson when and where applicable.
