Joseph P. Wood is the author of four books of poetry, which include YOU. (Etruscan) and Broken Cage (Brooklyn Arts). His work has appeared widely, in journals such as Boston Review, Cincinnati Review, Colorado Review, Denver Quarterly, Gulf Coast, Indiana Review, North American Review, and Verse Daily.

For the past five years, Wood has worked periodically in the Republic of Georgia. In 2023, he was awarded a research and mentoring grant from American Research Institute of the South Caucasus. From 2024-2026, he was a Fulbright Scholar at Akaki Tsereteli State University in Kutaisi, Georgia. During this time, he co-developed a Collaborative Online International Learning course on the global epic for students at UAB and ATSU.

At UAB, Wood has taught courses in World Literature, Fairytale and other Orature, English Composition, and Creative Writing. He has recently completed a book on his time in Georgia.
