The 31st Annual UAB/UA Graduate Student Symposium in Art History — Friday, March 27, 2026 @ UAB’s Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts

The art history faculty of UAB and UA invite students currently working towards an M.A. in Art History, and closely related disciplines, to submit abstracts (250 words) for 20-minute formal paper presentations to be included in our 31st Annual Graduate Student Symposium.

We welcome papers presenting original research in any field of art history and closely related disciplines (architectural history, archaeology, cultural heritage management, museum studies, and visual and material culture).

The symposium will take place exclusively in person at the Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts on the UAB campus in Birmingham, AL.

Undergraduate Poster Session

To encourage the work of emerging scholars in the discipline, we also invite undergraduate art history majors to submit proposals for presentations of senior-level or thesis work in a poster session, to be held the day of the symposium. Proposals should consist of a 250-word abstract accompanied by an academic letter of recommendation.
