The mission of Samford University is to nurture students through learning experiences and relationships in a Christian community, so that each participant may develop personal empowerment, academic and career competency, social and civic responsibility, and ethical and spiritual strength.

Samford University expects its graduates to be able to reason, measure, and research the issues of the day; to speak and write clearly; to appreciate cultural and individual differences and to exercise civility, tolerance and compassion for others; and to have cultivated their talents toward meeting career goals.

Samford University, founded by the Baptists of Alabama and maintaining a close relationship with the Alabama Baptist State Convention, is open to students of all denominations and faith traditions. Samford is the largest privately supported and fully accredited institution for higher learning in Alabama.
