Beginning Feb. 4, the City of Birmingham will expand construction of Birmingham Xpress Bus Rapid Transit stops and stations downtown, which could impact traffic flow. This work will be performed without totally shutting down 5th Avenue South or 18th Street. One lane will be open at all times. The project is expected to be completed by no later than April 1.

The affected areas are 5th Avenue South from 8th Street South to 18th Street as well as 18th Street from 5th Avenue South to 1st Avenue North.

UAB Transportation has sent communication to those employees who park in Express Lot 4 and is addressing the Blazer Express routes affected. Employees who regularly park along 5th Avenue will be allowed to park in Express Lot 4 without a permit – only while the project is ongoing.

The Birmingham Police Department will have officers on site directing traffic throughout the project.
