The University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking nominations for a new scholarship recognizing undergraduate students who are actively advancing campus wellbeing as part of the university’s five-year anniversary as the first Health Promoting University in the United States.
The Student Wellbeing Innovation Scholarship, awarded by UAB Student Affairs and the School of Public Health, will provide three students with a $2,500 award to support tuition and fees for the 2026–27 academic year. The deadline for nominations is March 31, 2026.
The award reflects UAB’s commitment as a Health Promoting University, an international designation grounded in the Okanagan Charter, which calls on institutions to embed health into all aspects of campus culture and lead health promotion action locally and globally.
The scholarship honors students whose ongoing work strengthens UAB’s culture of wellbeing in one or more of the following areas “People, Place and Planet.” Eligible efforts may include initiatives that support the mental, physical or social wellbeing of students, staff or faculty; enhance campus or community environments; or promote environmental stewardship and sustainability.
Open to all undergraduate students, the scholarship requires applicants to demonstrate sustained involvement in a project, initiative or creative effort that contributes to campus wellbeing. Examples include leading peer-support programs, launching student organizations focused on belonging, collaborating to improve campus spaces or developing artistic and storytelling projects that strengthen a culture of care.
Students may self-nominate or be nominated by faculty, staff or peers. Recipients will be notified in April and featured in university communications.
