Suicide prevention may seem like an intimidating task--however preventing suicide is something anyone can be trained to do! To commemorate National Suicide Prevention Month, Student Counseling Services will host two virtual QPR training sessions for undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral students.
QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer. Attendees will learn how to look for warning signs of suicide, to identify risk factors, and to "Question, Persuade, and Refer" in order to prevent suicide. Each participant who completes the training will receive a ‘gatekeeper’ certificate to recognize their achievement.
QPR training for graduate and post-doctoral students will be held via Zoom on Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 12 p.m. Attendees can access the program by clicking here, and using the password: Prevention. Additionally, a training course will be held for undergraduate students via Zoom on Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 5 p.m. Interested participants can access the program by clicking here, and using the password: Health.
Training programs like QPR emphasize the need to recognize the early signs of suicidal thoughts. If you are unable to attend these sessions listed above, visit the Student Counseling Services website to sign up for later events offered throughout the school year for different groups and departments.
