The UAB BWELL app, which is available in the Apple app store and at Google Play, encourages self-care habits and provides a plethora of useful mental health resources. Created in collaboration with UAB students, this app is a one-stop-shop for any and all of your mental health needs.
In the midst of a worldwide pandemic and an ever-changing social climate, it is important to prioritize your health in college, specifically your mental health. The BWell app allows you to do just that.
Once you download the app, you are asked a few simple questions in the categories of sleep, nutrition, routine breaks, movement and resiliency. You are then given a timeline where you can perform daily check-offs of the tasks that you complete. There is also a built-in wellness journal where you can document your feelings, log your goals for the next day and keep track of your daily entries. The app allows you to set goals for yourself and keep track of your personal progress.
Highlights of the app include an always visible Crisis Help icon that, once clicked, takes you to a page full of resources and numbers such as UAB Police, counseling services and the National Suicide Prevention hotline. The app also contains multiple tabs for other resources such as the Finding Calm tab that allows you access to exercises you can perform anywhere. The exercises range from breathing techniques to grounding positions.
Do you want to find out new ways to get involved on campus? There is a tab that provides a list of opportunities on how to get involved in mental health activities on campus. Other tabs include self-help activities and skills to help others.
This app is extremely accessible, easy to use and is tailored to UAB students specifically. The path to your improved health and wellbeing is literally right at your fingertips!
