For Savannah McCartney, involvement in UAB Student Media became more than a creative outlet – it became a place for growth, connection, and confidence. As editor-in-chief of Aura Literary Arts Review, McCartney said Student Media gave her opportunities to develop leadership skills, collaborate with fellow student creatives, and help amplify artistic voices across campus.
Aura, UAB’s award-winning literary arts magazine, provides students with opportunities to showcase poetry, prose, photography, and visual art while fostering creativity and expression within the campus community.
Reflecting on her experience, McCartney shared that Student Media helped shape both her personal and professional journey at UAB by allowing her to tell stories and connect with others through creativity. Her involvement highlights the lasting impact Student Media continues to have in empowering students to grow as leaders, communicators, and storytellers.
