Shiobhan Holmes, administrative support specialist in Student Services/Administration and Fiscal Affairs, has been named UAB Student Affairs Employee of the Month for January in recognition of her exceptional collaboration, integrity and commitment to fostering a caring community.
Holmes consistently goes above and beyond her assigned responsibilities, often stepping in to support departments without dedicated administrative assistance. In her role, she assists with critical administrative functions, including processing student worker HR documentation, managing vendor payments through Blazer Bucks and handling cash deposits with accuracy and reliability.
“Shiobhan actively supports departments that lack access to a dedicated administrative support assistant, stepping in to handle crucial administrative tasks,” said Jackie Alexander, director of Student Media. “Her willingness to share her expertise has made her an invaluable resource for other administrative staff.”
Holmes is also recognized for her integrity and proactive leadership. When staffing transitions created gaps in essential processes, including Campus Card operations and I-9 processing, she assumed additional responsibilities without hesitation to ensure continuity of service for the division
Her work reflects UAB Student Affairs’ strategic priority of Fostering a Caring Community, as colleagues describe her as a trusted team member who consistently demonstrates respect, professionalism and a genuine willingness to help others succeed.
The Student Affairs Employee of the Month program honors staff members who exemplify the division’s values and make meaningful contributions to the success and well-being of the UAB community.
