Mandy Hunt of UAB Student Assistance & Support has been recognized as the August 2026 Employee of the Month for her dedication to removing barriers and improving access to resources that support student success.
Since joining the team, Hunt has prioritized collaboration and finding solutions to better meet students’ needs. Her work to streamline the department’s grant program helped make financial assistance more efficient and accessible, contributing to a 1,500% increase in program utilization in one month.
“Mandy has been a breath of fresh air to Student Assistance & Support since joining the team,” said Shawra Rainer, who nominated Hunt for the recognition. “She consistently prioritizes collaboration in ways that directly benefit students.”
Hunt has also partnered with the Career Center to develop the proposed Blazer Launch initiative, which would provide students experiencing financial hardship with a scholarship-funded stipend, professional experience and career coaching.
Her commitment to increasing access is also reflected in her support of the Blazer Kitchen and her role in developing the Red Folder: Student Edition, a student-focused guide connecting Blazers with essential campus and community resources.
Through these efforts, Hunt exemplifies UAB’s values of collaboration, integrity, respect and excellence while helping students feel supported and connected to the resources they need to succeed.
