The research track is ideal for students who desire to pursue research careers in informatics or for those who intend to continue into a Ph.D. program. This track has two electives that offer great diversity.
Students may also customize their experience in the master’s program by choosing from elective courses in specialized focus areas, including imaging informatics. Students with an interest in data from imaging and pathology can take two experiential electives in imaging informatics at UAB Hospital, in addition to courses in the Research track. This option is ideal for radiologists and radiology techs.

The UAB MSHI program has all of our classes online, with only two residential visits required each year. Additionally, courses are held both asynchronously and synchronously, depending on the course.
