In 1971, members of the Alpha Sigma Tau sorority manned a table during recruitment. The sorority was established in May 1970 as UAB’s first social sorority.
Today, UAB has a thriving group of sororities and fraternities on campus, each focusing on scholarship, service and philanthropy, leadership, campus involvement and brotherhood and sisterhood. This fall, Panhellenic sorority recruitment is scheduled Aug. 21-24; while formal rush week for UAB’s fraternity organizations is Sept. 11-14, fraternities can recruit nearly any time of year except for specific periods mandated by the Interfraternity Council.
