BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Division of Urology invites runners to hit the track at its annual Talladega 21000 half-marathon Sunday, April 11 to support prostate cancer research and the treatment and cure of urological diseases.
Named for a half-marathon 21,000-meter distance, the event will begin at 8 a.m. at Talladega Superspeedway. The half-marathon will start and finish on the famed NASCAR track. Sections of the 13.1-mile course will take runners through speedway tunnels, outside the grandstands and along nearby paved roads.
Keepsake medals will be offered to every runner who crosses the finish line within the four-hour limit. Registration is $50 until March 31, and the price goes up as the race weekend nears. A maximum of 1,200 runners will be allowed to participate in the half-marathon.
The post-race party will be on the speedway pit road and include an awards ceremony, music by Chevy 6 and food by Jim 'N Nick' s BAR-B-Q. Also on April 11, a one-mile fun run/walk honoring prostate-cancer survivors and others affected by the disease will begin at 8:15 a.m. Talladega 21000 is hosted by the Division of Urology and the Trak Shak athletic stores in partnership with the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center.
