UAB Opera's production of this classic opera based on Greek mythology will feature an outrageous, modern twist: Set in 1980s New Jersey, Semele is an ambitious gold-digger, Jupiter a ladies' man and the God of Sleep an anesthesiologist. UAB Department of Music's Annual UAB Jazz Summit, UAB Mary Culp Hulsey Recital Hall, 950 13th St. South. Students of all levels in grades 9-12 are encouraged to apply for the UAB Jazz Summit. Participants will be placed in classes and ensemble situations of a variety of levels determined by audition and band director recommendation. Students will be placed in big bands and combos according to their skill and experience, and will be mixed in with UAB jazz students in their various ensembles. Clinicians will include some of the top jazz musicians in the area, and master classes will be given on every major instrument. Students get to rehearse with a big band or combo, master classes on their instrument, two meals and a T-shirt. Deadline to register is Feb. 25. Cost is $65. Call 205-934-6154 for more information.

Wosner attracts international recognition for his exceptional artistry, musical integrity and creative insight. With imaginative programming that communicates his intellectual curiosity, Wosner performs a wide-ranging repertoire from Mozart and Beethoven to Ligeti and composers of his own generation.
