BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB Department of Computer and Information Sciences (CIS) hosted its annual summer robotics camp for high school students June 8-12. The camp is the second in a series of four technology camps targeting middle and high school students each June. The robotics campers built simple robots using Legos NXT robotics kits and then learned to program them to perform specific tasks. This year's tasks included the Self-Parking Robot, Sumo Wrestling, Kick the Can and Balloon Buster.
UAB CIS started its first weeklong high school computer graphics summer camp in 1999. In 2003, CIS added the robotics camp. A third five-day camp on computer graphics was created in 2007. Today, UAB hosts all three camps consecutively along with an additional computer programming camp for middle school students during the month of June.
