BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Associate Professor of Theatre Kimberly Schnormeier, M.F.A., has won an Outstanding Advising Award from the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA).

Schnormeier is one of seven faculty advisors nationwide honored with the award in the category of faculty academic advising. The award is presented to individuals who have demonstrated qualities associated with outstanding academic advising of students. Schnormeier and the other winners will be honored at the NACADA conference this fall in San Antonio.

Schnormeier this year also was honored with UAB's prestigious Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award. She is associate chair of the department and also is the primary advisor for theater students.

The UAB Department of Theatre has won the highest honors awarded to university theaters, including best in region from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF). In 2008, UAB's production of "In the Blood" was one of three shows chosen by KCACTF from 300 in consideration nationwide. Faculty members in the department continue to work professionally in addition to teaching. UAB Theatre performances are presented at the Alys Stephens Center, UAB's own world-class performing arts center. Next year the department will celebrate its 40th anniversary.
