BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Board of Trustees of the University of Alabama System has established the Dr. Paul S. Worrell Optometry and the Dr. Paul S. and Sylvia D. Worrell Optometry endowed scholarships for students at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Optometry. The endowment is made possible by a $50,000 gift from the namesake benefactors.

The late Dr. and Mrs. Worrell were exemplary civic volunteers and donors, and he was a successful Birmingham-based optometrist. Among their many contributions, the Worrells aided UAB in the purchase of a former office building on 18th Street that is now called the Paul S. Worrell Building, home to UAB's Vision Science Research Center.
