International students at UAB will compete in a campus version of the popular Japanese television show "Iron Chef" this weekend. Five teams will have just one hour to create dishes using spices and other ingredients that will remain a secret until the start of the competition. The team with the best dish will receive a trophy. This is the fourth "Iron Chef" event at UAB.

Three judges will select the winner. The dishes will be judged on taste as well as presentation. Doretta Potts, the contest organizer and administrative associate for UAB International Scholar and Student Services (ISSS), says the "Iron Chef" competition has grown in popularity with more international students seeking to compete each year. "The students really enjoy getting together and being able to show off their culinary expertise," Potts said.

The competition will take place Saturday, March 21 at 5:30 p.m. at the UAB Smolian International House, in the backyard of the building, 1600 10th Ave. S., Birmingham. In case of rain, the even will be held inside the Smolian International House.

The Iron Chef contest is sponsored by the UAB ISSS.
