Tent is author of the 2003 book "In the Shadow of the Holocaust: Nazi Persecution of Jewish-Christian Germans," which recounts the plight of the "Mischlinge," Germans who were part Jewish and part Christian, during World War II.

Tent teaches modern German history in the UAB Department of History. His other books include "Mission on the Rhine: Reeducation and Denazification in American-Occupied Germany," "E-Boat Alert: Defending the Normandy Invasion Fleet" and "The Free University of Berlin: A Political History."
