BIRMINGHAM, Ala - The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Writers' Series will host a free public reading by the award-winning poet C.D. Wright, 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, at the UAB Mary Culp Hulsey Recital Hall, 950 13th St. S. For more information call the UAB Department of English at 205-934-4250.

Wright has published numerous literary works, including "Cooling Time: An American Poetry Vigil" in 2005, "One Big Self: Prisoners of Louisiana" in 2003 and "Steal Away: New and Selected Poems" in 2002.

She has garnered many prestigious awards and honors, including a Guggenheim Fellowship and the Lannan Foundation Literary Award. In 1994 Wright was named Poet Laureate of Rhode Island, a five-year post.

The UAB Writers' Series is an annual offering of the UAB Department of English and the Program in Creative Writing and is sponsored in conjunction with the Birmingham Area Consortium for Higher Education (BACHE).
