BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Alys Stephens Center will present three sessions of its summer drama camp, "Kids on Stage," for children ages 7-14 in June and July.

The camps are part of the Alys Stephens Center's "Arts in Action" education program. The first session is June 15-26, the second session is July 6-17 and the third session is July 20-31. All three will take place at the Alys Stephens Center, 1200 10th Ave. S., Birmingham. Camp hours will be 9 a.m.-4 p.m. with pre- and post-camp care options for working parents. Cost for each two-week camp is $325. For information or to register, contact Kimberly Kirklin, director of education and outreach at the Alys Stephens Center, at 205-934-0862 or kkirklin@uab.edu.

The "Kids on Stage" drama camp is an experience that shares with children the wonder and detail of theater performance. Campers will be introduced to many aspects of theater with a variety of fun, intense classes. They can learn theater games, improvisation, warm-ups, concentration exercises, voice and diction, terminology, acting and stage production.

Best of all, the children will get a chance to showcase their newly developed skills when each camp session culminates with a different musical production: session one is "Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr."; session two is Roald Dahl's "Willy Wonka Junior"; and session three is Disney's "Aladdin Junior." The camp's big shows will be completely produced by campers. Admission to the shows is free and open to all parents and friends.

Camp teachers are Alicia Johnson-Reed, artistic director; Quinton Cockrell, acting instructor and director; Henry Hearns, choreographer; Freida Hall, set designer/artist; and Bill Harris, musical director.
