BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Pratik Talati, [Pronounced Pruh-teek Ta-la-tee] 20, of Pelham, and Anna Lloyd, 19, of Fairhope, were named Mr. and Ms. UAB for 2008 during the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) homecoming game festivities Saturday, Oct. 18, at Legion Field.
Talati is a senior chemistry and mathematics major. He is a student in the University Honors Program and a recipient of the prestigious Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship. He is a member of the UAB Ambassadors, the UAB Trailblazers and the Undergraduate Student Government Association's Finance Committee. Talati also has been an active community volunteer working with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and Healing Words. He is the son of Ashvin and Alka Talati of Pelham.
Lloyd is a sophomore majoring in psychology. She is a student in the UAB Global and Community Leadership Honors Program (GCL) and the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences Honors Program. She is a member of the Undergraduate Student Government Association and the Homecoming Committee. She also is the service committee chairwoman for the GCL. In addition, Lloyd has been an active participant in UAB Relay for Life and the Into the Streets community service initiative. She is the daughter of Scott and Amanda Lloyd of Fairhope.
The winners of the Mr. and Ms. UAB competition will each receive a $1,500 scholarship from the UAB National Alumni Society. They will work closely with the Alumni Society's board of directors as student representatives to raise awareness of the organization's Student Alumni Society, scholarship programs and events.
The first alternates in the Mr. and Ms. UAB competition are Hernandez Stroud, 20, a junior history major from Huntsville, and Carly Lunceford, 20, a junior elementary education major from Clay.
