BACKGROUND:

The UAB Health System and Bessemer Carraway Medical Center formed an alliance in February. The affiliation provides the UAB Health System with a traditional community health setting. The partnership also provides Bessemer Carraway patients access to UAB’s high-tech facilities and medical specialists.

“The alliance will provide patients with access to appropriate care in their community, while freeing University Hospital patients for more critically ill patients,” says David Fine, CEO of the UAB Health System.

Discussions between the two organizations began in May 2000.
