Representatives from the People’s Republic of China will donate more than 130 books to the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Mervyn Sterne Library tomorrow during a special reception to be held on the campus.

Representatives from the People’s Republic of China will donate more than 130 books to the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Mervyn Sterne Library tomorrow during a special reception to be held on the campus.

 

 

 

WHAT:

 

Hu Yeshun, consulate general of the People’s Republic of China in Houston, will present the books to UAB. Most of the books are in English, although some are bilingual. The collection includes books covering a range of topics such as classic Chinese literature, art, law and business. In addition to books, the library also will receive 10 CD-ROMS. The books and CD-ROMS will be added to the library’s Asian collection. Yeshun also will donate a set of documentary films and CD-ROMS to the Birmingham Public Library.

The reception begins at 4 p.m. tomorrow, Nov. 18; The presentation of books and CD-ROMS will follow shortly after the opening remarks.

WHY:

 

The consulate general is visiting the UAB campus to promote Chinese cultural awareness and study abroad programs as part of International Education Week, Nov. 17-21.
