BIRMINGHAM, AL — The results of the Mr. & Ms. UAB Competition were announced Saturday, October 12, during halftime at the UAB homecoming game against the Houston Cougars. The winners are:
Mr. UAB — Kiran Lagisetty, [Pronounced Keer-in] 21, of Madison, Alabama — Lagisetty is a senior majoring in philosophy. He is a University Scholar and a student in the UAB Honors Program. He also has been admitted to the Early Medical School Acceptance Program. Kiran has been active with the UAB Ambassadors and the Entertainment Committee. He has also participated in community service efforts such as Into the Streets and Hands on Birmingham.
Ms. UAB — Juanita Titrud, [Pronounced Ti-Trude] 20, of Montgomery, Alabama — Titrud is a junior majoring in biomedical engineering and pre-medicine. She has received academic honors from Alpha Lamda Delta Freshmen Honor Society and is a recipient of the McNair Scholarship. Juanita is active on campus as a resident assistant. She also is a member of Campus Crusade for Christ and Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She has been a hospice volunteer and she participated in a dance marathon charity event for Children’s Hospital.
Mr. UAB, First Alternate, Jeremiah Haswell, 21, of Ozark; Haswell is a senior majoring in mechanical engineering.
Ms. UAB, First Alternate, Saroj Kumari Hardit, 21, of Bessemer; Hardit is a senior, psychology/biology major.

- Samantha Brooke Sterling, 21, Centerpoint, senior, psychology major
The winners of the Mr. & Ms. UAB competition each receive a $1,500 scholarship from the UAB National Alumni Society. They will work closely with the Alumni Society’s board of directors as student representatives to raise awareness of the organization’s scholarship programs and events.
