Stephen O. Glosecki, Ph.D., will discuss his Beowulf-translation project in a talk entitled “Skalded Epic: Hammering the Headstave” for the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Haddin Humanities Forum.

The Haddin Humanities Forum, founded by Frederick W. Conner in 1973, provides an informal setting for dialogue between students, faculty and the public. All who attend are encouraged to participate in the discussions. The Haddin Humanities Forum is free and open to the public.

WHO:

Stephen Glosecki, Ph.D., is an Anglo-Saxonist specializing in “Beowulf” and the metrical charms. His research focuses on Anglo-Saxon art and culture, which was highlighted in his book Shamanism and Old English Poetry (1989). Glosecki teaches old English, “Beowulf” in the original and in translation, literature of the Vikings as well as English and world literature. His lecture, “Skalded Epic: Hammering the Headstave,” is based on his recent work, an alliterative translation of “Beowulf.” Glosecki is an associate professor in the UAB Department of English.
